A Tipi Weekend with Pom Poms and Bunting

Bride holding purple heart umbrella

Earlier this year Val from Benessamy Weddings and Events had the pleasure of planning and co-ordinating an Open Weekend for Sami Tipi Events. The event was designed to showcase the fabulous tipi structures set within the picturesque setting of Bawdon Lodge Farm in Leicestershire – a perfect location to host a tipi wedding. Val told us about the event…

Tipis provide an atmospheric event space like no other event venue. Inspired by the Sami People of Lapland, tipis make for a fabulous outdoor celebration and provide a breathtaking alternative to a conventional marquee, and are just perfect for the increasingly popular festival style wedding.

Visitors to the event received a warm Benessamy and Sami Tipi welcome from our team and the team of fabulous suppliers.

The tipis were beautifully styled by Darby & Joan with gorgeous flowers by Tineke Floral Designs, pom poms and bunting galore by Pom Pom Studio and Emma Bunting, and lovely stationery by Best Day Ever.

The fabulous cakes and treats display was provided by Yummy Little Cakes (including Macarons to die for!).

How and when did Magical Events start?

Having owned and run successful businesses previously (albeit industries I had no interest in!) I decided that life is too short and I should actually do something that I really enjoy – camping and events! We launched our first website ‘Magical Camping’ in January 2012 and the business went from strength to strength. We added more Bell Tents to our ‘fleet’ in 2013, and in the Summer of 2013 we also started working on launching our Giant Hat Tipis for hire. In January 2014 ‘Magical Events Ltd’ was born and this now covers our two trading websites and

What wedding services do you provide?

We offer our Giant Hat Tipis with a range of finishing touches that can be added to create a unique structure for our customers; they can seat between 72 and 300+ guests depending on the event. Along with the Tipis we can cater for up to 180 guests who want to stay for the evening inside our Bell Tents. This can be for a group of friends, a couple, or our very special ‘Honeymoon Suite’!

What is a bell tent?

A Bell Tent is a very simple structure used for camping – it is a 19th century design but has certainly stood the test of time. Bell Tents were used an awful lot in the Zulu War, South Africa, and were mainly used by the British Army Troops. Today, the Bell tents are used for a whole host of things – we have used them for 1 year olds’ birthday parties, Tattoo Parlours, Children’s Crèches, Honeymoon Suites and everything in-between.

PapaKåta Kåta Tents

Getting to Know – PapaKåta

PapaKåta Logo

Interview With: Sally Pellen

Company Name: PapaKåta

Location / Coverage: Based in the North but happy to travel

Who are PapaKåta and what do you do?

Here at PapaKåta we specialise in hiring out Kåta tents for parties, weddings, festivals and events – tipi style tents pioneered by the Sami people of Lapland. They’re utterly gorgeous, and make for a very different sort of party space than a run-of-the-mill marquee.

PapaKåta Kåta Tents

How and when did PapaKåta start?

PapaKåta was born in 2006, when husband and wife Directors Richard and Amanda Monaghan bought 3 giant hat Kåta tipis for their own wedding. They therefore understand the importance of your wedding day and what the details mean to you.

What wedding services do you provide?

As well as the hire of the tipis we also hire out furnishings and the finishing touches that help to make your wedding day truly magical and unique.

What is the difference between a tipi and a marquee?

As well as being beautiful natural structures, the unique rounded shape of the tipis means that they make for a very sociable party space. With no-one facing a corner and everyone being thrown back into the middle, it’s hard not to have fun partying the night away in a giant tipi.
