A Dreamy, Fantasy, Ice Coloured Wedding Shoot

Wedding cake on table

Today’s wedding shoot is all about ‘dreamy fantasy and a chic urban edge’, and you’re going to love it. With a colour palette of silver grey, ice blue and powder pink this styled shoot is the perfect inspiration, whether you are getting married in summer or winter. We love the succulents and air plants, and the coned flower arrangements are amazing and will look incredible as your table centrepieces.  There is a huge ‘cute’ factor for this shoot too as there are two of the most adorable little flower girls…

“The concept of the shoot was a young, hip ballerina about town gets married in a low key city ceremony – an unconventional culture clash of dreamy fantasy and a chic urban edge.

“There was no fancy location – we used a studio above a shop in Saffron Walden – and we wanted to challenge brides to think outside of all the mainstream things they are seeing. There is a door with writing on which could be used as a table plan or for guest messages, coned table flower displays, and the crystals on the table as an alternative to glitter and traditional sparkle. The use of succulents and air plants gave a new twist to the floral arrangements, which included menta roses, silvery lilac delphiniums, dusty eucalyptus, tapered Veronica, and starbursts of astrantia, and the subtle colour palette of silver grey, ice blue and powder pink linked throughout.”

A Hedgerow Inspired Bridal Shoot

Bride sitting on bench

Today’s feature is a really beautiful styled shoot, inspired by our wonderful countryside hedgerows. With Stratton Court Barn as the backdrop the creative team behind this shoot have really worked their magic. We love all the natural elements, including the bark filled candle vases, the moss covered ladder for the seating plan, and the fresh figs and blackberries used on the exquisite naked wedding cake. With the vibrant orange and purple flowers, everything about this shoot oozes rustic charm…

“The idea behind the shoot was to showcase the gorgeous rich colours and textures of autumn, following a discussion on the wonderful purples of blackberries and what you could find in the hedgerow. Stratton Court Barn is a gorgeous Farm venue – a blank canvas for you to style to suit your day. It’s a super-flexible venue so you really can make it suit your needs.

“Stratton has a gorgeous large wooden table which we styled as a whole to give brides something a little different to think about. We also used regular things they might be used to seeing, but tried to use them in creatively different ways, so the ladder covered in moss as the table plan, and the log slices to stack in the corner, decorated in flowers and candles to bring something different to a plain corner in the room.

“The flowers on the table are more of a runner than a traditional arrangement, which allows for more freedom; lights could be woven in here as well to give some evening sparkle lights. Traditional candle sticks provided another focal point and suited the barn setting.

“The cake was 3 different flavours – coffee, chocolate and carrot – to link the colours of the day, and it was decorated with autumn fruits and a dusting of sugar, with flowers helping to bring it all together.

“For the models’ hair we used flowers in a more delicate way, as we know not everyone wants large flower garlands in their hair, so we grouped flowers to reflect those in the bouquet, a move from the small clusters of gypsophila. We kept the overall styling relaxed to suit the country vibe present throughout the venue, but we did introduce Downtown Abbey twists, with lace capes to show that you can give hints of any theme you want, in a relaxed way. You can also see the fashionable fishtail and other more relaxed hairstyles.

“Make-up doesn’t need to be subtle either; we used strong lip colours to tie in with the strong colours of the flowers.”

A Countryside Inspired Wedding on a Farm

Bride and groom standing by pond

As Kat and James grew up in the countryside they wanted their wedding to reflect their love of the countryside and the farm Kat grew up on. We love the cute monogram tree that Kat and James used throughout their wedding stationery, from the invitations and seating plan to the bottles of homemade sloe gin for the guests’ favours. This tree was designed by a friend and is symbolic of where James proposed.

We love a tipi wedding, and when the couple really goes to town on the details we love it even more! Kat’s mum made cute hessian cutlery holders and the sloe gin, James’ dad handpicked ivy from the farm, and the couple created a family tree which they pegged all their family’s wedding photos to, making this a real family occasion, filled with love.

Also, check out James’ dapper suit and Kat’s stunning Justin Alexander wedding dress…

“Our ceremony took place Debden Church in Essex, followed by a reception at my (Kat) mum and dad’s farm. We really wanted a church wedding and we were really blessed to be able to use my childhood church and have James’ childhood vicar marry us.

“The styling of the day was inspired by the farm and the countryside we both grew up in. The farm is such as amazing place and we always knew we wanted to have the reception there. I grew up there and James is really fond of it as well, especially as he grew up only five miles away. We often visit to escape London life for a few hours, or sometimes days! We decided on giant tipis as they went really well with our country theme.

Hayley Ruth Photography got some fantastic shots of our day; we can’t recommend her highly enough.”

A Hero’s Wedding

Bride with military groom

Today we are sharing pictures from the very special wedding of Leanne and Ross, the winners of the Hero’s Wedding competition.

Hero’s Wedding offered one UK Military couple the chance to win their dream day – to enter all they had to do was fill in an online form, telling their love story and why they thought they should win.

Kim from The Wedding Community was one of the judges for the Hero’s Wedding competition, and last November Leanne and Ross were announced as the winners. Their story was especially touching and seemed to captivate the entire nation, as they won by several thousand votes.

Their wedding took place on the 13th June 2013 at the gorgeous Parklands wedding venue, Quendon, Essex. Surrounded by family and friends, Leanne and Ross were married, with the Registrars from Saffron Walden, who gave their services for free, conducting the ceremony.

Leanne and Ross said on the day…

“Thank you everyone so, so much for making our wedding day possible; you don’t understand how much it has meant to us! Thank you so much for all the messages and well wishes, and thank you to all our lovely friends and family who were there making the day so perfect! We are completely overwhelmed and so thrilled to finally be Mr and Mrs Allan.”

Essex based military wives, Hayley Oats (Hayley Ruth Photography) and Emma Waring (Military Wedding Discounts), along with SEO expert Steve Hooper (UK Wedding SEO) joined forces to create a dream wedding package worth over £16000.

“With all 3 of us working in the wedding industry, we wanted to do something to show our appreciation for the amazing job our Forces continue to do and for the sacrifices they make in order to protect and serve our country. With the support and generosity of some of the UK’s top bridal brands, Hero’s Wedding was born.

“From the stunning venue to dream dress, beautiful bridesmaids, super-smart suits, gorgeous bespoke stationery, delicious cake, delightful wedding favours, a leading hairdresser to create the perfect wedding hair, an exceptional make-up artist on hand to give that perfect wedding day glow, award winning bridal accessories to give sparkle, award-winning wedding photography, a video package to capture the day, stunning flowers, sweetie treats to share with the guests and much more – we thought of it all!”
