How did Rocks and Frocks come about and how long has the business been going?

Rocks and Frocks started after I had to retire from my Account Director role within the design and print arena due to health reasons. With a solid project and account management background working on global accounts my skill set was transferable to the event industry. I spent three years working for a production company on worldwide events before launching Rocks & Frocks Ltd.

Who works at Rocks and Frocks and what are your roles?

There is myself, Vanessa, and I am Co-Director and Wedding Planner, and I’m lucky enough to work with my husband, Dominic. He is also a Co-Director and not only assists me on my larger weddings but runs our premium 5ft letter hire side of the business. We also have the lovely Sue and Lizzie who form part of the planning team on our larger weddings.

What is the inspiration behind your name Rocks and Frocks?

I’m afraid several bottles of champagne on a girlie night in led to the name. The two things that most girls focus on at the beginning of their wedding journey are the engagement/wedding rings and the wedding dress. Hence the name Rocks and Frocks Ltd.

What does Carmela Weddings do?

Carmela Weddings creates stylish, modern weddings for fashion-forward couples.

Bride and groom sitting on couch

How did Carmela Weddings come about and how long has the business been going?

We’re a husband and wife team (Sam and Lisa) and we’ve run Carmela Weddings for three years now. The business came about as I had worked in events for about 15 years and had organised a few friends’ weddings.

I loved it, but particularly liked unique, urban, luxury weddings that had a real sense of style, so when Sam came on board we decided to concentrate on that style of wedding.

Elegant bridal bouquet

Have you always been interested in weddings and wanted to be wedding planners?

I had always loved events and always loved a planning spreadsheet. Sam loved design and has a creative flair so it just worked out brilliantly.

Which areas of the UK do you cover? Do you offer your services outside of the UK?

We mainly cover London and Surrey but have done weddings further afield (there are some fabulous warehouse locations in Birmingham).

We also specialise in Malta weddings as I am Maltese and have a base there. We’re so familiar with all of the venues and suppliers in Malta (we even got married there ourselves) so we provide local knowledge whilst couples are still able to chat to us face to face in the UK.

Website: www.tsweddingdesign.com

Location / Coverage: London and the Home Counties

What does Tina Smyth Wedding Design do?

At Tina Smyth Wedding Design we are known for our personal, bespoke approach to our wedding planning service. With a long standing background in the hospitality industry, it was always important to me that my couples feel looked after, both during the planning process and the wedding day itself, and this describes best how we work. We do everything for our couple. Our services and the planning process are entirely tailored to our couples and their lifestyle/schedule, and we purposely limit the number of weddings we look after each year so we can continue to offer the personal service we have become known for.

Have you always been interested in weddings and wanted to be a wedding planner?

Yes, always. I started my working career a rather long time ago in hospitality and I could not imagine doing anything else! I love what I do.

How did Tina Smyth Wedding Design come about and how long has the business been going?

I have been in the event and wedding industry now for over 11 years, both here in the UK and in Germany, and starting my very own planning service was ultimately always my dream. I eventually braved it and launched Tina Smyth Wedding Design, encouraged by adamant former clients and industry colleagues. I have not looked back since and Tina Smyth Wedding Design continues to look after weddings and other celebrations with great pride and joy.

How did Your Planning Angel come about and how long has the business been going?

I first thought of setting up Your Planning Angel in 2010, but at the time I was invested in a successful career in the financial sector. Five years, a wedding, two house moves and two children later I knew it was time to take a leap of faith and I launched Your Planning Angel at the beginning of 2015. I can honestly say that it was the best career decision I’ve ever made – I absolutely love it!

Bright buttonhole

Have you always been interested in weddings and wanted to be a wedding planner?

I have always loved planning anything from hosting a little get together with friends to large corporate events. I get an enormous sense of achievement from taking an idea and combining all the elements to create a great occasion. Weddings are the ultimate celebration for most couples and I’ve known for many years that I wanted to extend my passion for event planning to focus on weddings, so becoming a wedding planner has been a very natural transition for me.

Christina Barker - Chantilly Rose Weddings and Events

Interview with: Christina Barker

Company Name: Chantilly Rose Weddings and Events

Website: www.chantilly-rose.co.uk

Location / Coverage: Oxfordshire, UK

What does Chantilly Rose Weddings and Events do?

Chantilly Rose is a wedding and event planning business located in Oxfordshire. We can help with all your planning needs from supplier sourcing to full wedding planning. We also cater for any event which needs assistance with organisation and planning at any stage. We organise wedding fayres across Oxfordshire too, so keep an eye out for us at your local wedding venue.

Military couple wedding planned by Chantilly Rose

How did Chantilly Rose Weddings and Events come about and how long has the business been going?

We have always been fascinated by the world of weddings; all the pretty things, the glitz and glamour. Everyone is always so joyful at a celebration so it was only natural for us to want to explore the industry and wedding planning has always been a dream job of ours. Organisation is a key attribute, so we thought why not become a wedding and event planner and help lots of people plan their dream day in the process. After pledging a year to plan a wedding for a couple in the military to ‘win a wedding’, we knew that it was definitely the job for us, and it was after then that Chantilly Rose Weddings and Events was born.

The business is now approaching its first year so we are still fairly new, but we are loving every minute of it and excited to see where the future will take us.

Wedding table plan

Have you always been interested in weddings and wanted to be a wedding planner?

Always! To get a personalised invitation land on your doorstep is an exciting experience. It’s the first insight to what the event will entail. The build up to the big day is always filled with anticipation and questions, then to see the couple so happy on the day is just so special. To know you have helped plan that wedding is even more special.

Wedding planning was always in the back of our minds. It was the dream job that you never think you would get in to.

After planning my own wedding whilst heavily pregnant, sending the venue co-ordinator all the documents she needed to carry out the wedding day itself, I assumed she would take over on the day with my instructions and be by my side from the minute we stepped foot in the door. Unfortunately, this was not the case. She greeted us and showed us to our reception room where we sat down for our wedding breakfast then she was nowhere to be seen. I had to search for her myself, to which I was informed she had left for the day. This then led me to do what she should have been doing, organising speeches, DJ, lighting, buffet, first dance and cake cutting. Something the bride should not have been doing on her wedding day.

Although this should not have happened, I knew then that it was my mission to help as many brides as possible enjoy their day, and by becoming a wedding planner I would achieve this.
