We just love the way you can decorate with pine cones, making them perfect for autumn and winter weddings. Not only do they look great, bringing the great outdoors indoors, they also add a beautiful rustic charm. If you love handmade items you could collect your own pine cones and get creative, and as pine cones are great decorative items, there are many places that you can source ready-made decorations.

These are some of our favourite ideas for pine cone wedding decorations.

Wheat Sheaf from Shropshire Petals in Confetti Field

Shropshire Petals has just launched a new range of chic vintage wheat sheaves, perfect for making beautiful wedding bouquets and table decorations.

Wheat fields all around the countryside are being cropped, processed and straw being baled. Shropshire Petals use wheat in a different way – to create beautiful wheat sheaves, perfect for your wedding.

Shropshire Petals grows and produces natural petal confetti and wheat sheaves on their Shropshire farm. They have just launched a new range of chic, English garden wheat sheaves, incorporating vintage roses, lavender and rose sprigs.

Mixed Rose, Thistle and Pink Rose Sprig Wheat Sheaves from Shropshire Petals

Add a touch of the country to your wedding:

  • Wheat sheaves make the perfect country style bouquet – a medium wheat sheaf is perfect. Adding subtle pink or cream roses to a wheat sheaf will add a beautiful vintage effect.
  • For brides wanting a delicate posy, a small wheat sheaf with touch of lavender or rose springs will create a beautiful bouquet.
  • Place a wheat sheaf in the centre of reception tables to create a natural, country feel to your wedding. Adding lavender to the wheat will create a delicate aroma for your guests – why not sprinkle some lavender grain or natural petal confetti on white table cloths to complement your centrepiece.
  • Tying wheat and lavender bundles to the end of pews or to the back of reception chairs will enhance the countryside theme, and can double up as favours for your guests.

Wheat sheaves are available with freeze dried roses in a range of natural colours, lavender, thistles, rose sprigs or completely plain. Available in four sizes, ‘Mini Me’, medium, large and a small wheat and lavender bundle; they are all perfectly tied with raffia to add to the natural feel.

You may have noticed the wheat in the Victory Bouquet given out to medal winners such as Jessica Ennis, Mo Farrah and Michael Phelps during the Olympics and Paralympics. Shropshire Petals supplied the wheat to Jane Packer, designer and creator of all 4800 bouquets. Add a part of British history to your home with Shropshire Petals Wheat Sheaves.

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do… What a cute idea to use bicycles as part of your wedding. We don’t mean any old mountain bike propped up against the wall… oh no! Using bikes; whether they are old fashioned bicycles with lovely big shopping baskets on the front that you can fill with beautiful flowers, or your much loved mountain bike that you can decorate with flowers and ribbons, they’ll make great photo props for your wedding pictures, and look great as part of your wedding decorations.

Here are some of our favourite ideas for using bicycles at your wedding.

Paper pom poms look fabulous as wedding decorations. Pom poms can be used as hanging decorations strung from ceilings and trees, hung on walls or material, as a backdrop for your wedding cake, dessert table or wedding pictures, tied to cutlery, and used as part of your place settings. The great thing about paper pom poms is you can have them as big or as small as you like, and in whatever colour you choose. We love the fun factor that paper pom poms create.

There are many companies that sell a wide variation of paper pom poms, or if you are crafty you could make your own. Here is a link to a YouTube video on how to make paper pom poms.

We wanted to share some quirky ways of using old step ladders as part of your wedding decor. Old used ladders are charming and underappreciated, and used the right way can add a great whimsical charm to your wedding style.

Whether you are getting married indoors or having an outside wedding affair, ladders can not only provide great decor but are also really useful as they can be used as shelves, places to hang wedding and escort cards, or simply display books, beautiful flowers or candles.

The more rickety the ladder, the better! Many of you will have an old ladder that you didn’t realise could come in so handy! Here are some of our favourite ways to use ladders at a wedding.

At The Wedding Community we are always looking for new and ‘cool’ ways to decorate a wedding, so when we came across Lamp Strings we knew we had to share these with you all. Lamp Strings are handmade thread lamp string lighting which looks absolutely amazing. Cable and Cotton brings you a product that is full of colour and allows you to be creative; it’s a fully customisable way to bring light, colour, fun and style to your wedding.

Lamp Strings by Cable and Cotton

Imagine your wedding venue decorated with stunning displays of string lights, in colours that complement your wedding colour scheme. Light Strings are very versatile and look great around mirrors, on tables, in vases, fireplaces and strung around a room.

Lamp Strings Hung from Beams

Cable and Cotton offers a novelty pick and mix lighting solution, allowing you to choose your very own colour combination of string lights and create stunning displays which complement your wedding colour scheme. Simply choose between a 25, 35 or 50 bulb cable and add as many different colours as you like from the 43 colours available. That’s it! There are also 17 different pre-selected colour strings available. (Cable and Cotton very kindly sent us Lamp Strings in The Wedding Community’s colours; they look amazing!).

To create your Lamp String it couldn’t be easier:

Selecting Colours for Lamp Strings by Cable and Cotton

Step 1 – Select the cable size you want out of the 20, 35 or 50 lamp options

  • 20 Light Cable – £22.95 (140 cm of lamps (lit) and 150 cm from the plug to the first lamp)
  • 35 Light Cable – £32.95 (240 cm of lamps (lit) and 150cm from the plug to the first lamp)
  • 50 Light Cable – £42.95 (340 cm of lamps (lit) and 150cm from the plug to the first lamp)

Step 2 – The real fun bit! Select the colours you like from the choices, or de-select if you change your mind. The mix button gives you the option to shuffle your selected colours, but remember you assemble the final string light set yourself when it arrives

Step 3 – Once you’re happy with your selection, click ‘Add’ to check out

Step 4 – The Lamp Strings are delivered with the cable and the balls separate and you simply ‘pop on’ the balls in the order you desire – you can swap around if needed

Lamp Strings on Table

One thing to note is that unlike fairy lights that are one long string of lights, the cable on the Lamp String is connected at both ends to the plug, so these are a ‘loop’ rather than one long string. Lamp Strings will really brighten up your wedding and the best thing is that you can keep them after the big day and use them to decorate your home!
