1920s Art Deco Wedding Styling at The Duke

We’ve featured a number of fabulous wedding inspiration shoots at Duke of Cornwall Hotel but this art deco one is my favourite so far. The Duke is such a grand hotel, so the art deco concept works so well. These wedding styling ideas are wonderful inspiration for couples marrying at The Duke or any other hotel with such style and grandeur.

The creative team really made the most of every aspect of the hotel to showcase how the art deco look could work for you. The styling has has a modern, trendy edge, and a lot of the current trends in the wedding world have been cleverly incorporated. A big wedding trend is to have a cocktail bar for a cocktail hour (very 1920s!), and I love the globe drinks trolley, signed with a funky art deco type-style printed menu and a cool ‘trust me you can dance’ chalkboard sign. Of course, no 1920s drinks area would be complete without a gramophone!

If you’re looking for bridal style with a nod to the 1920s then you’ll love the bride’s look. She wears a gorgeous, classic cut vintage style dress with a beautiful feather headband, which gives the look a touch of flapper style.

Everything about this art deco inspired wedding styling at The Duke really is fabulous, just like the era itself. Enjoy these wonderful pictures by UpArt Photography.

An Element of Art Deco

“The history behind the hotel has always fascinated me, and I love the fact it has seen many different styles and eras since opening in 1863. This shoot needed to be in keeping with age of the hotel and its history, so we decided to reflect the 1920s with an element of art deco.” – Agata, UpArt Photography

Opulent Blush, Copper and Gold Wedding Styling

Today’s beautiful wedding inspiration shoot took place at the incredible Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth. The shoot concept was opulent blush, copper and gold wedding styling, a stunning colour combination.

Copper and gold together make such a great colour palette for a wedding, in any season. The copper gives a pop of colour and the gold a luxe feel. The creative team also used navy and blush pink to add depth to the styling, and together with the copper and gold this shoot has a wonderful luxurious feel.

If you’re looking for some sparkling styling ideas then you will love the tablescapes. Fabulous sequin tablecloths, beautiful floral arrangements and candelabras adorn each table, and the navy sashes on the chairs complement the rose gold tablecloths perfectly. The top table has an array of small copper vases, each filled with luscious blooms and foliage, and even the beautiful wedding cake has a touch of sparkle, with gold leaves.

The bride and groom look fabulous, and I particularly love the wedding dress with soft tulle shoulder drapes and elegant tulle skirt. The bride’s hair and make-up is beautiful too. I’m all for natural bridal make-up but it’s nice to see a bride who can carry off a pop of colour. Finally, if you’re looking for wedding hair ideas, the bride’s updo is amazing. You’ll definitely want to show this to your hair stylist!

These beautiful pictures by Mimosa Photography showcase the fabulous blush, copper and gold wedding styling ideas perfectly, and of course The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, a stunning wedding venue which oozes charm and history.

Looking at wedding picture at The Duke of Cornwall Couples Event

Past Couples Return to The Duke of Cornwall Hotel

In September another chapter in the history of The Duke of Cornwall Hotel was written. Past couples who’d married at the Duke were invited back to share their stories. Dressed in their finest and armed with wedding albums, they walked the red carpet up the grand staircase to the Hayward Room, ready for an afternoon of reminiscing.

The atmosphere was incredible. The room quickly filled with laughter, talk of days-gone-by, and discussions about how much fashion and the hotel had changed.

Toby Lowe captured the event, recreating some incredible shots. Freelance writer and journalist, Laura Joint, took the time to sit with couples to find out more about their big days. So, grab a cup of tea and join us for a story or two…

Colin and Jill May tied the knot on 17th January, 1959

“We married in a Nissen Hut because, after the war, that’s where the register office was in Plymouth,” said Colin, who served in the Royal Navy.

“It was blowing a gale that day and we’d decided to start our honeymoon with a night at the Edgcumbe Arms. We got on the Cremyll Ferry and Jill’s hat, the one she’d worn at the wedding and the reception, flew off and headed off down the river. The boatman managed to hook it out but it was obviously ruined. It was very funny and I burst out laughing … but the marriage nearly ended there and then!”

The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouth

We get very excited when an email lands in our inbox with pictures of a styled shoot or event at The Duke of Cornwall. So you can imagine our delight when we were invited to stay at the hotel and experience it for ourselves. So, last month we set off to Devon for our stay at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel.

Victorian Grandeur

Dating back to 1863, The Duke of Cornwall Hotel was Plymouth’s first luxury hotel; and luxury it is. Over the years the hotel has undergone considerate restorations and improvements. When you walk up the steps of the grand entrance you feel like you are stepping back in time.

If you appreciate architecture then you will love The Duke of Cornwall. Described by Sir John Betjeman as “one of the nation’s best examples of Victorian architecture”, it really is spectacular.

Beautiful pillars, intricate detail and an abundance of Victorian grandeur feature throughout the hotel. Also, right in the heart of the hotel is a fabulous, sweeping staircase that leads up to the four floors. It is the perfect place to have some incredible wedding pictures taken.
