Our congratulations go to Karli Harrison Photography, after this stunning picture was voted The Wedding Community’s 2014 Picture of the Year. The picture is from the wedding of Amelia and Danny in July 2013, and Karli told us that it may not have even been taken if it hadn’t been raining outside. As they couldn’t use the grounds of the venue for photographs they went to the bridal suite to take some shots, and Karli set-up her flash on a stand behind Amelia. As the hairspray came out of the can it was caught by the flash resulting in this incredible effect.

This is the second time Karli has won The Wedding Community’s Picture of the Year, having also been crowned the winner in 2012

“Winner of Picture of the Year! Again! I am once again completely in shock. I am blown away and incredibly touched by the amazing support everyone has shown, it means the world to me. I want to say the biggest thank you to all my lovely friends, family and supporters, without you this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you to the beautiful Amelia for being the perfect subject, and to her bridal party for making hairspray look so magical! I would also like to say well done to the other photographers, you all had beautiful photos and it was a privilege to be listed in the final 12 with you.

“This all feels like a dream, being included in the final 12 from 260 pictures from the year is an honour, but to win the whole thing is pretty special. And to win it twice is even more so; it’s going to take a while to sink in.

“What I loved the most about winning in 2012 was how my clients were just as excited (if not more so!) than I was, and it certainly attracted interest from new brides and grooms looking for their photographer. I look forward to celebrating with all my lovely clients this year, past and present! Thank you to everyone who has helped make this start to 2015 so special. WE DID IT! Time to pop open some champagne to celebrate…”

An Engagement Shoot in the Grounds of Sizergh Castle

Engaged couple laying on ground

Couple: Laura and Steve

Photographer: Karli Harrison Photography

Engagement Shoot Date: 16/05/2014

Location of Shoot: Grounds of Sizergh Castle, near Kendal, Cumbria

Wedding Date: 07/06/2014

Why did you have an engagement shoot?

“The last thing we wanted was to look awkward and uncomfortable in our wedding photographs, so having the opportunity to spend some time getting used to having a camera pointing at us seemed like a good idea. Having the shoot also meant we could choose one of the photos and have it enlarged, so at the wedding reception all the guests get to sign around the border instead of in a formal guestbook (I never know what to write in those things!), which we thought was a really cool idea!”

Picture of the Month – January 2014

And the winner is… Karli Harrison Photography!

Congratulations to Karli Harrison Photography, our first Picture of the Month winner of 2014. Karli is now the first photographer to win two Picture of the Month awards, with her previous entry going on to win her Picture of the Year 2012. Karli told us that she probably wouldn’t have even taken this stunning picture if it hadn’t been raining outside…

“Amelia and Danny got married at Mitton Hall in July last year. During the afternoon we went to take a few shots inside the Bridal Suite as it was very wet outside, so sadly we couldn’t use the grounds. Before the pictures Amelia sat down at the end of the bed as her mother and bridesmaid stood over her to use some hairspray on her hair. Even though the room itself was dark, I put my flash on a stand behind Amelia which illuminated the hairspray as it came from the can. It was a bit of an experiment but the resulting image was this. It ticked all the boxes – gorgeous bride, stunning room, and a natural moment. I’m so glad it was raining that day or I would have probably never taken this shot.”

Picture of the Year 2012 Winner

And the winner of The Wedding Community’s Picture of the Year 2012 is… Karli Harrison Photography!

Huge congratulations to Karli Harrison Photography, the winner of The Wedding Community’s first ever ‘Picture of the Year’ competition. In a closely fought final vote, this stunning picture, which was taken during the bridal preparations before Claire and Roger’s wedding at Northop Hall Country House Hotel in Chester, in June 2012, received the most votes from our readers to win ‘Picture of the Year 2012’.

Having found out she’d won, Karli wanted to thank everyone who voted for their support…

“I am sat here writing this in complete shock. I first submitted a photograph last year for ‘Picture of the Day’, and I was really pleased when it was picked to be featured. I hadn’t really thought about ‘Picture of the Month’, so when the competition came round I certainly didn’t expect to win. When I did, I was over the moon, and shocked! The amount of support that I’d received from people I know, and even those that I don’t, surprised me.

“As the ‘Picture of the Year’ competition came round, I saw that I was up against some amazing photographs, and once again I didn’t expect to win. To be honest, just being in the top 12 out of the original 247 pictures was an honour.

“The support has surprised me this time round too, so many people have voted and said such encouraging things. After the competition closed, I answered the phone a few minutes later with shaking hands, in a state of disbelief once again! I’ve won ‘Picture of the Year’!

“I have received a lot of interest since joining the competition; I have had more traffic to my website, and even a new wedding booking after I was seen in the competition last week.

“If you’d told me back when I’d first submitted my photo that I’d go ahead to win the overall competition, I would have laughed!

“I would like to say a little thank you to everyone for your kind support, and encouragement. Without all of you, I wouldn’t be here.”
