Picture of the Year 2014 Runners-Up

At 12noon we’ll be announcing the winner of our 2014 Picture of the Year vote, but first we’d like to give a special mention to the photographers who took second and third place…

2nd Place

Second place went to this picture by Jamie Penfold Photography. Taken at the Roof Bar on top of The Vermont Hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Jamie took the picture from low down to give it an interesting viewpoint, and used the lines of the floorboards and plant boxes to guide the eye to the couple, Adam and Tanya.

3rd Place

Third place went to this picture by Katy Lunsford Photography, taken at Bryony and Faraz’s rustic French wedding. Katy spotted the golden field the day before the wedding and realised that the sun would be going down in exactly the right place to get the most gorgeous golden light, if the timing was right, so Bryony and Faraz delayed their wedding speeches so they could get the shot.

Picture of the Month – October 2014

And the winner is… Jamie Penfold Photography!

Bride and groom - Picture by Jamie Penfold Photography

Our congratulations go to Jamie Penfold Photography after this stunning picture was voted our October Picture of the Month. Jamie was a runner-up in our 2012 Picture of the Year competition, so will be looking to go one better when voting for our 2014 Picture of the Year opens in January. Jamie told us about the picture…

“The wedding was on June 6th this year at The Vermont Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne.  The couple are Adam and Tanya Ewen.

“It was a gloriously warm and sunny day, and after the ceremony we’d had a bit of fun in the surrounding streets but then decided to take advantage of the roof bar (The Sky Lounge) on top of the Hotel. The views are stunning up there. I did some of the obligatory shots with the riverside views and Tyne Bridge in the background, but I like to try shots from alternative angles. Everything came right with the shot; there were a few clouds floating around to add a bit of interest, the sun was in the right place and the contrast in colours between the sky, hedges and floor were bang on. I decided to get down low to give it an interesting viewpoint and use the lines of the floorboards and plant boxes to guide the eye to Adam and Tanya. They were so relaxed too…. a joy to work with!  We were really lucky because the next day we were hit by gales and thunderstorms!”

An As You Like It Wedding

Bride and groom walking with bridesmaids

Today we are sharing more fantastic pictures from Stephanie and Neil’s wedding at As You Like It in Newcastle upon Tyne, our July Wedding of the Month. Neil had proposed to Stephanie in New York, using the MTV big screen in the centre of Times Square. An MTV executive he’d befriended arranged a five minute slot on one of the most photographed screens in the world.

The quirky venue was the perfect setting for their unique wedding, photographed by Jamie Penfold Photography

“Steph was the creative brains behind it all and had the idea of getting married in the city to create a completely unique wedding that nobody would expect. She had a lot of ideas that were only possible because of her ability to find or create exactly what she wanted. An example is the table layout, or the 45’s dotted around the room, as well as the menu cards and favours etc.

“Music, and particularly older music, has played a big part in Steph’s life, so she wanted to include it as much as possible without it being a specific theme.

“We chose As You Like It as our venue because of its quirkiness, and it has so much style that makes it stand out from anywhere else. From the outside it could easily be mistaken for an office block, then you step inside and get the WOW that we wanted to create.”

Before we announce the winner of The Wedding Community’s Picture of the Year’ 2012 vote, we’d like to give a special mention to the runners-up…

3rd Place

Third place went to this picture by Olivia Shaw Photography. The picture was taken at Sarah and Toby’s wedding at St Michael’s Manor in St Albans on 15th January 2012, on a beautiful, crisp, winter’s day. Olivia loves the gaze between the couple in this photo, capturing their beaming happiness at a very special moment between a newly married couple.
