Bride and groom at top of stairs at Kings Weston House

A Kings Weston House Wedding with Handmade Touches

I was delighted when the fabulous Martin Dabek sent me the pictures of Hollie and Jimmy’s wedding at the historic Kings Weston House. This wedding contains one of my all-time favourite wedding pictures… you’ll know why when you see it, but it contains two deer and some props!

Built many centuries ago, Kings Weston House boasts a plethora of 18th-century features, including magnificent ceilings, marble fireplaces, and a stunning suspended central staircase. It is elegant, full of character, and has such charm; the perfect backdrop for Hollie and Jimmy’s wedding.

I love a wedding with a big bridal party, and Hollie’s seven bridesmaids all looked stunning in mismatched muted pink dresses that complemented the grey, pink and white colours of the styling details.

Talking of looking stunning – I adore Hollie’s wedding dress from Allure Bridals. It has such a pretty sheer lace back with button detail.

This really is a beautiful, elegant wedding (with a hint of shabby chic). Enjoy looking through these fabulous pictures by Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek Photography.

An Informal Feel

“Our wedding took place at Kings Weston House in Bristol. We wanted to create a shabby chic, informal feel, and chose a colour scheme of grey and dusky pink with sparkly accents.

Happy couple after wedding

A Wedding Full of Colour, Creativity and Character

Happy couple after wedding

My, how we love the pictures by Khaki Bedford Photography from Andrea and Grace’s amazing wedding at The Green Building in Brooklyn, New York. Full of colour, creativity and character, their wedding was super stylish, quirky and fun. A display of colourful objects that each signified something special to the couple was set up for guests to admire, and guests could type a personal note on a vintage typewriter. Andrea and Grace set the mood of the evening by playing a clip from The Muppets before they walked down the aisle, and the fun and quirkiness continued all night…

“The night was about us, our friends and family, and what we’ve built over the years, not a promise of what could be. What we really wanted was a party.

“We didn’t exactly have colours or a theme, but one thread that ran throughout was ‘our favourite things.’ Our save the date was illustrated by Small Adventure, and featured some of our favourite things – Pee-wee Herman, books, Windex, gems, and our cats.

“I head up merchandising at Fab.com, so much of the decor either came from Fab or straight from our apartment; we wanted the space to feel like an extension of our home. Our best pal Barry made the doughnut tree and we made all the pennants from paint chips. Andrea’s mom made a mini jar of homemade strawberry jam for each guest and my mom did all of the flower arrangements. The food was a mix of Asian and Southern (like us) and we had our favourite doughnuts and cold brew for dessert.

“Our vows weren’t exactly traditional; I promised Andrea that I would eat breakfast every morning and Andrea promised that she’d lie if she doesn’t like my hair cut – I’ve eaten breakfast every day since.

“Our wedding was such a natural extension of who we are. While the event had the general structure of a wedding, we were pretty adamant that we’d do it on our terms. It was all about what we love and who we love – a Muppet video, plastic dinosaurs, vintage vases, library card catalogue place cards with personalized typed notes, calamansi margaritas, not a single slow song, a reading of the Majority Opinion in ‘Goodridge v. Department of Public Health’…”

Red Gingham Wedding Ideas Mood Board

Red Gingham Wedding Ideas

Red gingham may well remind you of your primary school summer dress; red gingham to us says ‘fun and whimsical’.

We love weddings where gingham has been used in the styling, and particularly red gingham, which at this time of year adds a warm feel to a wedding.

All fabric shops sell red gingham material, and it can be pretty cheap, so if you are going down the handmade wedding route, you could create a really stylish wedding. How about using gingham ribbon to tie your cutlery together, wrap jars in hessian and tie them with the ribbon, or even use the material as a table runner or the backdrop to your wedding seating plan… the options are endless.

Here are some ideas of how to use red gingham in your wedding styling.
