Bright, Colourful Art School Wedding Styling

I’m in love with EVERY detail of this fabulous ‘Art School’ styled wedding shoot. These styling ideas are bright, bold, contemporary and bang on trend.

These pictures by the very talented Amanda Karen Photography showcase the modern art ideas beautifully. There are a lot of painted details within this styling you could recreate if you are going for a handmade/DIY wedding.

There is an almost tropical feel to the details. I love the fabulous tissue paper flower and large palm leaf arrangements, and incredible floral wall (again, it’s all tissue paper flowers).

If you are crafty you could use a similar ‘art’ theme to make your wedding look spectacular.

What do you think… cool or what?

Bright, Clashing Colours

“Every time Erin from Way Out Wedding comes to me with an idea it’s always out there and a bit different, and I can’t say no! I love planning and styling weddings and shoots that are away from the norm and that have an upbeat energy to them.

“We wanted an art style that was different to the fine art wedding shoots we’d seen before. The main focus was to have bright, clashing colours and an infusion of carnival! We contacted Amanda Karen Photography as I’d worked with her on a shoot in Paris and knew she’d bring a real sense of fun to the shoot. As usual she’s captured everything brilliantly.”

Pink Hues

“The cake and the stationery worked brilliantly together on this shoot. Susie of SK Cakes worked together with Tayjal of Mani’s Creative, who designed our stationery suite, and what they came up with worked so well. They experimented with paint and pulling out key elements such as texture and flamingo pink hues to create a clashing, arty palette. The cake clashed so well in front of the pale pink wallpaper backdrop.

“The flamingo plates were the first thing I found for our tablescape, and everything else came from that perfect plate. The long purple tables of the bar were a great clash with the linens.”

So Many Different Styles in One Place

“The Anthologist at Bank in London was perfect for this shoot. We wanted modern, laid back and informal with a party atmosphere and lots of different backdrops. The space works because it has so many different styles in one place, from the lilac square panelled wall we used for the flower wall through to the swing they have set up in one of their many nooks around the venue. It was the perfect space for our creative, arty vibe. There are also so many great spots for photographs in the little city streets around it that we couldn’t resist.

Tissue Paper Flower Wall

“We really wanted to do something different with the flowers to show what you can do with colour in a modern space and in a really contemporary way. Susie at Tissue Blossoms made us our beautiful bright flower wall from tissue paper! Twisting, pulling, bleaching, dying and painting the tissues got us the effect we needed. Imagine a flower backdrop like that for all your wedding pictures!

“We borrowed three bridal outfits from the Moonage Daydream collection by Velvet Johnstone, and added to these with some dresses from Erin’s preloved range No Debutante. We wanted a mixture of texture while still keeping things contemporary – we certainly got that.

“The beautiful colour pop shoes were handmade by Marsha Hall. She used the lines of a flamingo silhouette and translated that into curves within the patterning of the shoes. Because of the detachable fastenings we could add different looks to the shoes using flowers.”

Stand Out Groom

“We really wanted to go to town on the groomswear. It’s often an afterthought in shoots but we wanted our groom to stand right out! We found the perfect suit at Adam Waite; it was so tropical and loud.

“Louise and Charlene got to have loads of fun making our models look fresh and colourful, with the girls’ looks topped off with bespoke headwear pieces made by Beverley Edmondson and jewellery by Kulbir Bhandal.

“We had such fun on this shoot; it was my favourite to date. We carried the relaxed vibe throughout the day with music and laughing, and we hope that shows in the photographs.”
